Teacher Instructions for the Tsalila Education Days

The Tsalila Education Days are offered before the Festival, and are only open to schools that have made reservations to attend. We anticipate 1,000 students to attend each day, and your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

Grade Levels:

Grade appropriate learning stations are designed for grades 2 – 5. Second graders rotate through five learning stations, and 3 – 5 graders rotate through six stations. Second and fourth graders focus on social studies and Oregon history, while third and fifth graders focus on science.

How to Register:

A letter is sent out in the spring to schools that have attended previous Education Days, giving a date when reservations may be called in. If you would like to get on the mailing list, please contact the Umpqua Discovery Center at umpquadiscoverycenter@charterinternet.com. Be sure to provide your contact information including your email address. You can request which of the three days you would like to have your class participate, as well as the morning or afternoon session. A schedule for your class will be emailed to you shortly before the Education Days. It is essential that you stick to this schedule: it will make a more enjoyable day for you and your students, and the other classes around you.

Transportation to Tsalila:

Once your reservation has been confirmed, you are responsible for reserving busses for your students. The Tsalila Partnership will reimburse the cost of the busses to and from Tsalila ONLY. To get a reimbursement for bus costs, submit the Bus Reimbursement Form by November 1st to the address on the form.

Field Trip Guidelines:

Information on group size, schedules, name tags, chaperones, weather, evaluations, lunch, lost and found, etc. can be found at Field Trip Guidelines. Please make sure that each of your chaperones has a copy of the guidelines as well as a schedule and a map.

Site Map:

Please make a copy of the site map for you and each of your chaperones. You may want to highlight where your stations are located to make it easier to find them when you arrive. Volunteers will be on hand to help direct you to the stations.

Evaluations:

We appreciate your feed back! We use it to plan for the next year’s Education Days. If you did not receive one in your teacher’s packet, please fill out the Evaluation Form and submit it to the address on the form by November 1st.

Student Festival Flier:

Photocopy this festival flier for your students to take home. We hope the students will return on the weekend with their families to enjoy the many scheduled programs and activities.
